On September 26, 2024, the Austrian-American Day celebration took place in Portland, emphasizing the cultural and economic ties between Austria and the local community. The following day, on September 27, Consul General Michael Postl of the Austrian Consulate in Los Angeles and Trade Commissioner Volker Ammann hosted an exclusive networking event for business leaders in Oregon to mark the reopening of the Austrian Honorary Consulate in Portland. Birgit Hayden was officially welcomed as the new Honorary Consul in Portland during the event, which focused on strengthening connections between the Austrian and Oregonian business sectors through the ReFocus Austria initiative. We extend our gratitude to our two company sponsors, BT Watzke and K&K Ski Austria. The event was also attended by Japanese Consul General Yuzo Yoshioka, Republic of Korea Honorary Consul Edward Kimmi, and Oregon Consular Corps Dean Gale Blessing.

On September 29, 2024, Consul General Postl and Trade Commissioner Ammann celebrated Austrian-American Day in Seattle, Washington, with Austrian Honorary Consul Eva Kammel. The day commenced with a reception at the Seattle Mountain Rescue, attended by members of the Bergrettung Tirol. Following the reception, attendees enjoyed a screening of the documentary The Volunteer: Mountain Rescue Brings Us Home, which explores the unique connection between the Seattle Mountain Rescue and Bergrettung Tirol. Filmmaker Mark Weiner takes viewers on a journey from Seattle to Tyrol, showcasing the heroic work of volunteers on both sides of the Atlantic. Members of both rescue teams ascended to the very top of the Seattle Space Needle. The Bergrettung Tirol was visiting for the week to collaborate with Seattle Mountain Rescue on best practices, enhancing their ability to serve their communities. Both teams consist of dedicated volunteers who are passionate and highly trained to assist in emergency situations.
