Armed Forces National Day Celebration

On October 29, 2024, Ambassador Petra Schneebauer joined Defense Attaché Major General Norbert Huber at the Austrian Embassy in Washington, D.C. to celebrate Armed Forces Day. Defense attachés from various embassies, partners from the industry, and other distinguished guests attended the reception and enjoyed delicious Schnitzel & Cremeschnitten.

The event provided an opportunity to also honor the historic liberation of Austria nearly 80 years ago, paying tribute to the courageous soldiers of the 3rd US Infantry Division who played a pivotal role in this momentous chapter of our shared history by leading the charge.

Retired U.S. Army Capt. C. Monika Stoy and retired U.S. Lt. Col. Timothy R. Stoy presented Ambassador Schneebauer with a replica of the commemorative plaque—unveiled at Salzburg Airport earlier this year—marking the 79th anniversary of the city's peaceful surrender in May 1945. This symbolic gesture embodied the 3rd Infantry Division's commitment to strengthening bonds with partners overseas.

The state partnership between the Vermont National Guard and the Austrian Armed Forces stands as a vivid example of the strong ties that bind Austria and the U.S. together. The Armed Forces Day event celebrated this strong relationship and the ongoing collaboration between Austria and the U.S.
