From March 3-4, 2022, Ambassador Martin Weiss hosted the 2022 Consular Conference at the Austrian Embassy. The conference brings together Austrian Consuls from across the United States with diplomats and staff from the Embassy and the Consulates-General for two days of consultations and exchanges.

The topics ranged from operational updates from Embassy departments to presentations on Austrian tourism or a round-table discussion on Austrian business in the United States. In addition, Major General Norbert Huber, the Defense, Military, Naval & Air Attaché, provided an assessment of the military situation in Ukraine, while Martin Krammer, Professor at the Department of Microbiology, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York spoke about viruses and potential threats beyond SARS-CoV-2.

Overall, the two-day conference offered valuable insights into the intersection of the Embassy’s work and its consular network across the country and provided an opportunity to interact in person again.
