The Sound of Music Turns 60
On 20 November, 2024, together with Tourism Austria and Tourismus Salzburg GmbH, the Embassy hosted many guests from the tourism industry to get a glimpse of the upcoming celebrations for the 60-year anniversary of the world-famous movie The Sound of Music that will take place in Salzburg in the coming year. The 1965 movie is based on the story of the von Trapp family and was filmed in and around Salzburg: it won five Oscars, making it one of the most successful movies of all time.
After some warm words of welcome by Ambassador Petra Schneebauer and Deputy Governor of the State of Salzburg Stefan Schnöll, Kristina von Trapp from the Trapp Family Lodge and Leo Bauernberger, CEO of SalzburgerLand Tourismus GmbH highlighted the movies’ worldwide significance and talked about the background of the movie.
Katrin Frauenschuh from Tourismus Salzburg GmbH, Kristina Hammer, President of Salzburg Festival, and Astrid Steharnig-Staudinger, CEO of Tourism Austria shared some Austrian Lebensgefühl and took the guests to Salzburg´s most beautiful places. Authentic Austrian cuisine, meticulously prepared following the von Trapp family's cherished culinary traditions, delighted the attendees.
Industry leaders Astrid Gruchmann-Licht (SalzburgerLand) and Michael Gigl (Tourism Austria) moderated the two insightful presentations, enhancing the dialogue with their extensive expertise.
We are looking forward to magical celebrations next year in Salzburg!
