Austrian Federal Minister Raab Visits New York and UN

From 5-7 March 2023, Austrian Federal Minister for Women, Integration, Media and Youth, Susanne Raab visited New York, where she spoke on the floor of the United Nations. To the UN Commission on the Status of Women she said, “if we want to create a sustainable and inclusive future, we need the ideas, talents and potential of women and girls in all their diversity.” The main points of her speeches given on International Womens’ Day were:
- Breaking down role models
- Bringing young women and girls into male-dominated industries
- Proposing concrete measures against cyber violence
She also addressed the worrying developments in various parts of the world, including Iran and Afghanistan and emphasized that Austria condemns all forms of violence against women and girls.

While in New York, Minister Raab also visited the New York Consulate General for a ceremonial conferral of Austrian citizenship decrees to direct descendants of persons whose ancestors were persecuted during the Holocaust.
Finally, on March 6, Minister Raab also opened the latest exhibit at the Austrian Cultural Forum in New York entitled “Hedy Lamarr: Actress. Inventor. Viennese.” The exhibit was curated by Dr. Danielle Spera, former director of the Jewish Museum of Vienna, and designed by Stefan Fuhrer. It celebrates the famous Austrian-American actress and inventor Hedy Lamarr, focusing on her achievements as an inventor and will be on display at the Austrian Cultural Forum in New York through May 15, 2023.
