Austria was recognized by the Consumer Technology Association as an “Innovation Champion” at the 2023 edition of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on 5 – 8 January 2023, one of the most important annual trade shows for electronics, technology, and innovation. The countries chosen as “Innovation Champions” are chosen based on an “International Innovation Scorecard,” containing 40 indicators in 17 categories, such as trade policy, environmental quality, broadband access, and cyber security.

State Secretary for Digitalization and Broadband Florian Tursky received the award on behalf of the Austrian government. Secretary Tursky also appeared prominently on a panel entitled, “How governments are approaching emerging technologies,” in which he laid out Austria’s priorities for 2023: improving digital infrastructure, fostering digital skills, and adapting the regulatory framework, both at the European and the Austrian level. Digital humanism and ethical AI remain high on Austria’s agenda as well as a method to approaching developments in the digital field generally.

More than 50 Austrian companies were represented at CES in fields as diverse as digital health, the audio-visual sector, and the mobility sector, presenting the latest Austrian technologies to more than 115,000 visitors.
