New direct flight from Vienna to Boston inaugurated.
On July 1st, 2024, Austrian Airlines inaugurated a new direct flight from Vienna to Boston, MA. The airline will operate the flight year-round, up to six times a week with a Boeing 767, offering 211 seats.
The flight’s ceremonial inauguration at Boston’s Logan Airport was opened with a flag raising ceremony in the presence of city officials, followed by remarks from Todd Smith, Director of Aviation Operations of Massport, Ambassador Petra Schneebauer, as well as Michael Triestl, Austrian Airlines’s Chief Commercial Officer, and Dirk Janzen, Vide Presdent for The Americas at Lufthansa Group.
In her remarks, Ambassador Schneebauer welcomed this significant milestone in further strengthening the ties between Austria and the United States, connecting two extraordinary cities rich in history and culture. The new, direct service not only offers more convenience and efficiency for travelers, but also opens “new avenues for collaboration, trade, and investment, fostering economic growth and strengthening our international partnerships.” The Ambassador further highlighted the role of both cities as hubs of science and innovation that are now better connected than ever.
“We are delighted to add an extremely attractive destination to our Austrian Airlines destination portfolio with Boston. By expanding our long-haul network, we are offering our passengers a diverse travel program, increasing our presence in the international market and strengthening our hub in Vienna,” added Michael Trestl, Chief Commercial Officer of Austrian Airlines.
Tourism prominently factored into the airline’s decision for a new direct flight: “In 2024, Vienna will continue to be a globally connected city – the new Boston flight of our strategic partner Austrian Airlines provides a strong boost for both leisure tourism and the conference sector. Tourism is once again as international as it was before the pandemic. The USA, which is Vienna’s most important long-distance market and was already above its pre-pandemic level in 2023, played a major role in this,” explained Norbert Kettner, Managing Director of the Vienna Tourist Board in the Austrian capital.
