Austria has been deepening its ties with State of Vermont under the umbrella of the State Partnership Program.

Ambassador Petra Schneebauer and and the Austrian Defense Attaché, Major General Norbert Huber, visited the Green Mountain State from June 20-22, 2024. On the agenda was a visit to the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, VT on the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of the story of the Trapp Family Singers, and the 65th Anniversary of The Sound of Music musical’s Broadway premiere.

In addition, the delegation visited Norwich University, where they conducted a highly productive meeting with senior members of the University’s administration, strengthening the long-standing relationship between Norwich and Austria. Most recently, in January 2024, leaders of the Vermont National Guard visited Austria where an agreement between Norwich University and Theresian Military Academy for an educational and cultural cadet exchange program was agreed upon within the umbrella of the State Partnership Program between Vermont and Austria.

The State Partnership Program, an initiative aimed at strengthening global security, understanding, and cooperation, facilitates the fostering of long-term relationships across all levels of society. Additionally, the program is designed to promote the growth of economic, political, and military connections between the state and partner nations. Within the scope of the State Partnership Program, the delegation was also welcomed back by the Vermont Department of Labor’s Burlington American Job Center for continued talks.
