“Land of mountains, land by the river” as the Austrian national anthem goes. And the country’s rivers play a central role in the electricity system – hydropower plants produce more than 60% of Austria’s power. Around 100 large hydropower stations and thousands of small hydro plants ensure stable basic supplies.

On Friday, May 12, 2023, the 67th Vienna Opera Ball took place in New York City at the famous Plaza Hotel. “Despite their differences – the fast pace and modernity of New York in contrast to the traditional cultural capital Vienna – we can see a close friendship between the two cities,” said Executive City Councilor of Vienna Peter Hanke who led a large delegation to NYC for bilateral talks.

On April 17, 2023, the Austrian Embassy in Washington together with the Bertelsmann Foundation hosted a panel discussion with experts from local think-tanks and Austria on The State of the Transatlantic Economy in Times of Global Disruption.
